Ben was the foundation stud dog not only for our kennel, but also for others. He heralded a new trend for Golden Retrievers in Indonesia. After his debut in Jogja, people started to become aware about how important bloodlines are and how selected bloodlines determine the quality of puppies produced. His offspring are generating Ben´s blood and we hope they will pass his "Benhood" to their offspring.

Merapi Kennel is an opened air home-kennel beside our village house at Gondang, Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Located on the foot of Mount Merapi, we believe that the fresh air, cool breezes and a quiet environment is the best place to breed Golden Retrievers.Our first Golden Retriever was the lovely and spoiled girl Hilda. The character of this breed truly amazed us and we fell in love immediately with these gentle and intelligent dogs. In early 2003 we started to breed Goldens seriously with guidance and help from Mr. Roby Darma Lie of Joscelind Kennel in Jakarta.
We found it best to use Golden Retrievers with a symmetrical and balanced body, good top-line, domed skull, short muzzle; strong and muscular feet.
At first, we decided to breed Golden Retrievers based on The Kennel Club (UK) Standard.
In the last few years we began to include some extra points such as the glamorous feathering and beautiful movement from the American-style Golden Retrievers. We hope that this combination will result excellent quality Goldens.
Our kennel mainly produces dogs for families, while show dogs are considered a bonus. Dog shows are not our priority at the moment. Though, we always try to provide superior bloodline with excellent character for our breeding programs.
Successful breeding programs are a blessing for us even though failures sometimes are inevitable. We realize that it takes love, time, hard work, energy and of course money to make our dreams come true.
Above all, I would like to thank my Parents and Mr. Roby Darma Lie for all the support and guidance that has made Merapi Kennel grow and for all my new friends for all their knowledge shared.
I would also like to thank our Merapi Family members for keeping in touch and their trust.
